Workshops will be structured around pre-circulated papers authored by invited participants (including works-in-progress). Each workshop will begin with brief ten-minute presentations by each invited participant who will reflect on the research questions and conceptual frameworks that guide their analyses. Speakers will also be encouraged to share some of the conceptual and methodological challenges they have encountered in their work, including the limitations of historical archives on slavery and unfreedom. The Workshops will be open to faculty and students from all Indiana University campuses, as well as members from the Bloomington community interested in the themes addressed.
