Indrani Chatterjee is the Nau Distinguished Professor of Democracy and South Asian History at the University of Virginia. She has authored Gender, Slavery and Law in Colonial India (1999), Forgotten Friends: Monks, Marriages and Memories of Northeast India (2013), and many essays in volumes and journals. She is also the editor of Unfamiliar Relations: History of Family in South Asia (2002) coeditor with Richard Eaton of Slavery and South Asian History (2007).
